Vivo V70 Elite

The V70 Elite brings a fresh design. It has flat front and rear panels, flat sides, and rounded corners. It feels properly premium this time. The Sand Beige and Passion Red variants use glass at the back, while the Authentic Black gets a glass fibre finish. The aluminium alloy frame adds to the solid feel, though it is slightly slippery.

It is also compact by today’s flagship standards. It is slim, easy to hold, and comfortable for one handed use most of the time. Build quality is excellent, and you also get IP68 and IP69 ratings. That adds peace of mind, even though water damage is not covered under warranty.

The 6.59 inch 1.5K AMOLED display is sharp and vibrant. Colours look natural, and HDR10 and HDR10+ content plays well on streaming apps. The stereo speakers are loud but a bit heavy on treble, so they lack depth. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is fast and works reliably.

However, the rounded display corners eat slightly into usable space. Some text near the edges feels too close to the bezel, which gives the UI a slightly cramped look.

The phone runs Android 16 with OriginOS 6. This is one of the highlights. The interface is highly customisable and feels fresh. You can tweak fonts, shapes, lockscreen themes, and more. Vivo promises four years of OS updates and six years of security updates, which is good for this segment.

Performance is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. It is smooth in daily use. Apps open quickly, animations are fluid, and multitasking is handled well. But at this price, it is not the most powerful chip available.

In gaming, Call of Duty Mobile runs smoothly at high settings, though there are occasional frame drops during intense moments. Genshin Impact is playable at high settings, but the phone heats up and performance dips over time. It is good for gaming, but not class leading.

The camera setup includes a 50MP primary camera, 50MP 3X telephoto, and an 8MP ultrawide. The primary camera performs well. It offers good dynamic range, pleasing colours, and decent detail. Portrait shots are sharp and look good. In low light, it captures usable photos with balanced exposure.

The telephoto camera delivers good 3X shots in daylight and surprisingly clean images in street lighting. However, the camera system sometimes struggles with auto switching between lenses, especially at close distances. This can be frustrating.

The biggest weakness is the 8MP ultrawide. At this price, it feels basic. Daylight shots look soft with visible distortion. In low light, results are noisy and lack detail. This is not what you expect in a premium phone.

Selfies from the 50MP front camera are detailed and sharp, thanks to autofocus. Video quality is good in daylight with stable footage, but low light videos lose detail due to aggressive noise reduction.

The 6,500mAh battery is impressive for a phone of this size. It easily lasts a full day of heavy use. With lighter usage, it can stretch into the next morning. Charging is fast with 90W wired support. It takes just over an hour for a full charge. There is no wireless charging, which some buyers may miss at this price.

So, is the Vivo V70 Elite worth it?

It gets many things right. The design feels premium. The display is sharp. The battery life is strong. Software is feature rich and fun to use. The primary and telephoto cameras perform well.

But there are compromises. The ultrawide camera feels out of place. Performance is good but not best in class. At its current price, it faces strong competition from phones that offer better raw power or more balanced camera systems.

If priced closer to Rs 45,000, it would feel like a strong recommendation. At over Rs 50,000, it becomes a tougher sell.
