What is RAM (Random-Access Memory) - Definition?

RAM or Random Access Memory is the memory where currently running software resides. RAM is used by operating system and processor to work on a task. The more RAM a device has, better performance it offers. More RAM means the device can run high end software and applications or performs complex tasks.

RAM is faster than primary storage of the device but it is volatile in nature.
