ASCII definition
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a character encoding standard for electronic communication. It defines a set of characters (letters, numbers, symbols, and control codes) that can be represented by the binary digits 0 and 1. Each character is assigned a unique number between 0 and 127, which can be stored in a computer's memory. ASCII is one of the oldest and most widely used character encoding standards, and it is still in use today for many purposes, such as text files and plain-text email messages. ASCII is a 7-bit code, which means it can represent up to 128 characters.
