USB definition
USB (Universal Serial Bus) is an industry standard for connecting peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, and external hard drives to a computer. It is a plug-and-play interface that allows devices to be connected and disconnected without the need to reboot the computer.
A USB connection is made up of a series of pins that connect the device to the computer, and a USB cable that connects the device to the computer's USB port. USB cables have a Type-A connector on one end and a Type-B connector on the other end, where Type-A is the connector that goes into the computer and Type-B goes into the device.
The USB standard has been through several iterations, each with improved capabilities and increased data transfer speeds. The most recent version, USB 4.0, has a maximum data transfer rate of 40 Gbps and supports multiple protocols, such as Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, and PCI Express.
USB is widely used to connect a wide range of devices, including storage devices, printers, scanners, cameras, audio devices, and many more. It is also widely used to charge mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
