What is IP68?

IP68 definition

IP68 is a rating assigned to electronic devices and equipment, indicating their level of protection against dust and water. The "IP" stands for "Ingress Protection" and is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as a standard for measuring the level of sealing effectiveness of an electronic device.

The first digit "6" indicates that the device is completely dust-tight, meaning no dust can penetrate the enclosure. The second digit "8" indicates that the device is protected against continuous immersion in water, typically for a duration of 30 minutes at a specified pressure. So, an IP68 rating means that the device is dust-tight and protected against long periods of immersion in water.
